...B is for Betta.

The title of this website, "A is for Angelfish (B is for Betta)", is an nod to an amazing Peter Greenaway film, A Zed and Two Noughts (ZOO). If you haven't seen this film, I highly recommend it! It is also a reference to a class a good friend of mine taught (of the same name) about Greenaway and his films.

However, this site is not about Peter Greenaway and/or his films (that will come another time). I found the title appropriate for a site about me and my best friend Travis's fish tanks, since both of us have bettas and angelfish. In this site, you will find everything about our tanks you can possibly think of: pictures, commentary, water parameters, anecdotes, etc. Eventually. Right now it is a work in progress. (I'm spending too much time researching fish stuff and taking care of fish to put all my efforts into this site! It's truly become an obsession.) I hope you enjoy my contribution to the online aquaria community!

Updates:
  • 05/16/01: wow, it's been a long time since i last updated! i think with finals and graduation and moving and such, i kinda forgot about this page. let's see...
    • i moved the contents of my 29g tank into a 46g bow front when i moved
    • the 12g puffer tank BROKE and i had to quickly move its contents into an 18g tank... at the time that was 3 glowlight tetras, a blue female betta, and a dwarf puffer. since then, i moved the tetras into the 46g bowfront. also the puffer suddenly decided to go completely aggro and chew up the betta, with whom she had been peacefully coexisting for several months
    • travis's 72g tank had numerous additions, most notably, a bicolor blenny. little purple and orange guy. cutest little thing, very shy at first. unfortunately, this morning travis awoke to find him mysteriously dead :( only two pictures of it are here: pic 1 pic 2
    • i found a 55g tank. after i decided i didn't want to deal with it, travis cleaned it up and it's now cycling with some cute little black and white damsels. eventually it will house a lionfish and perhaps an eel of some sort. the hope is to keep the expenses on the tank as low as possible (since trav just bought a car)
    • been having some trouble with the 2.5g betta tank. serious hair algae problems. this started happening when i added a tiny little cheap filter because i was having bacterial bloom problems. i seriously don't know the problem with that tank.
so i'll put this stuff on the proper pages when i have time... since the menu needs changing because of the tank changes, i'll have to do that later.
  • 03/11/01: added an observations page to the 29g tank menu. also updated 72g observations.
  • 03/04/01: usual updates: 72g marine pictures, observations, contents...
  • 02/25/01: i now have a guestbook! please take a minute to sign it, i'd like to hear from those visiting my site :)
